Irene Jacobs Memorial Scholarship Fund
Irene Jacobs, my grandmother and mentor, inspired me to pursue my goals as an artist from an early age. As an art student in New Dorp High School she encouraged me to go on with further studies at Parsons and the Fashion Institute of Technology where I was honored with an invitation to speak to students as an Alumni .

Having recieved a similar opportunity to speak to students at New Dorp High School and offer them the encouragment that I had recieved, I was inspired to remember Irene Jacobs in a very special way. I, with the financial support of my family, decided to create a scholarship aimed at any student of the arts who would be persuing further education in their particular field of art. This opportunity to give back to the art community in general and specifically at New Dorp High School enabled our family to establish an art sholarship fund in Irene Jacob's honor serving to preserve her memory as a fierce defender of the arts.

This scholarship award is not based on academics but on proficiency in and the passion for the particular form of art that the student is persuing. It is a monetary award restricted only to a student who is furthering their education in the arts. The scholarship has been presented each year for the past ten years. This award is presented each year by Stevie D'Arbanville, Irene's grandaughter, who is now a teacher of English and Literature at NDHS.
